COVINGTON, Ga. -- The Lamarius Benson sweepstakes is now open.

Benson, the 6-foot-5, 330 pound Eastside lineman who had been committed to South Carolina since March took to Twitter Thursday morning to declare that he was opening up his recruitment once again.

Benson, considered a 3-star prospect, had other offers from UCF, Georgia State, Georgia Tech and Maryland. He went on an official visit to UCF this past weekend, and the Knights now appear to be the front-runner to land Benson’s services.

Eastside will hold its National Signing Day ceremony next Wednesday morning at 8 a.m., and it seems likely that Benson’s decision will be a Signing Day one.

The Knights are enjoying the momentum of a 13-0 season complete with a Peach Bowl victory over SEC power Auburn. After the season, coach Scott Frost took the head job at his alma mater, Nebraska, making room for former Oklahoma national champion quarterback Josh Heupel to take the reigns at the Orlando school.
