Alexia Somerset has been a top performer on and off the basketball court throughout her career at Eastside High School.
She signed a letter of intent to play at Chattahoochee Tech in Marietta on Wednesday after choosing to forgo offers Presbyterian College, Millsaps College, and Center Georgia Technical College.
"I enjoyed talking to the coach at Chattahoochee Tech," Somerset said. "I'm hoping, just hoping that this will allow me to continue to reach the next level in my basketball career."
Somerset chose to stay close to home for her first two years in order to stay in touch with not only with her family but her team and coaches as well. Her coach in high school was also her coach in middle school as well.
"I've enjoyed teaching, mentoring, and being a part of Alexis' life since sixth grade," Eastside coach Matthew Jackson said. "I'm very proud of her, and I'm going to miss her. I know that she is going to do well in all other endeavors in not only being a student but an athlete as well."
Those relationships have been a big part of her life, and she is eager to start new ones at Chattahoochee Tech.
"I've been able to make memories that I will never forget," Somerset said. "I've enjoyed building wonderful relationships with my team and coaches. They've all taught me life lessons that will never leave me. Although I'm looking forward to this next phase in my life, I will never forget my time as an Eastside Eagle."
