Eastside soccer defeats Henry County
EASTSIDE SOCCER
Allie Dumaine (No. 1 in right bottom corner) watches as her game-winning shot hits the back of the Henry County net with only 9 minutes left.

The Eastside Lady Eagles (7-3, 3-3 4AAAA) dominated possession and play in their 3-1 win against the Henry County Lady War Hawks (1-7, 1-5 4AAAA) in soccer action Wednesday night. The victory, however, did not come easy.

The Lady War Hawks goalkeeper made four saves and defenders added five big plays that kept Eastside off the scoreboard. While Eastside couldn’t find the net on multiple attempts, Henry County didn’t have the same troubles. The Lady War Hawks scored a goal on their first shot of the match with 1:46 left until halftime.

Eastside keeper, Savana Arwood, made her one and only save of the first half 37 seconds later.

After trailing 1-0 at the break, Eastside found the equalizer on a Madison Morvik corner kick that the Henry County goalkeeper failed to hang on to when it appeared she had caught it. Once again, multiple saves by Henry County’s goalkeeper and stops by defenders kept Eastside from taking the lead.

Allie Dumaine, though, finally netted the game-winner off a short corner from Madison Morvik with 9 minutes remaining. Dumaine sent her shot from the corner of the 18-yard box up and over the Lady War Hawks’ keeper to put Eastside up 2-1. Less than one minute later, Dumaine added an insurance goal popping a sky high shot over the keeper again to give the Lady Eagles the Region 4AAAA victory. Arwood did not even touch the ball in the 2nd half until the final minute of play when she gathered the ball in to cutoff a Henry County scoring opportunity.

Eastside outshot Henry County 27-2 for the Match.

The Lady Eagles next match is at Hampton High School Friday with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
