The Eastside Eagles fell 3-1 to the Social Circle Redskins Wednesday night after a failed effort to tie the match with 10 seconds left.

In the nightcap, the Eastside boys scored a goal on a Will Hughes direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead against the run of play. Up to that point, Eagle keeper Jackson Gann and his defense had faced an onslaught by the Redskins offense but managed to turn away multiple scoring opportunities.

Social Circle’s Hunter Perren scored the equalizer on a breakaway down the right side line after Gann left his line in an attempt to gather the ball. Perren dribbled it across the goal mouth unopposed and kicked it in with 8:16 remaining in the first half.

James Cortasaniti put Social Circle (8-5, 1-2 2AA) ahead 2-1 when he scored off a corner kick from Dallis Duffy with 2:36 left. With less than 10 seconds left, John Drumheller almost tied the game for the Eagles when his shot crossed in front of the goal but just missed to the left.

Perren added to the Redskins lead with his second goal early in the second half to give Social Circle the 3-1 victory.

Eastside (6-8, 6-3) returns to Region 4AAAA action at Jonesboro Friday night. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm.
