COVINGTON, Ga. — Eastside’s wrestling squad hosted just its second ever wrestling camp last week inside the school’s lunchroom.
From Wednesday, June 28 to Friday, June 30, the 20-plus kids who registered participated in the camp from 9-11 a.m. each day.
Last year, the tally was a dozen kids, which nearly doubled this go round.
Seven high school varsity wrestlers, as well as a few coaches, helped lead the children through various drills.
Drills included: stance, motion, double leg takedown and sprawl.
This year’s camp was open to children in grades kindergarten through seventh grade.
Eagles’ head wrestling coach Sam Miller said the ultimate mission of the youth camp is for the kids to “fall in love with the sport.”
Miller is optimistic, too, that the camp will continue growing for years to come.
The Eagles hope that, as a result of the camp’s growth, additional offerings will be made available to future campers who register and participate.
