For his efforts on the gridiron last week, Eastside Eagles wide receiver Josh Sims has been named the Eastside Athlete of the Week.

The freshman grabbed a pair of passes in the Eagles' 30-14 home loss to StephensCounty, including an 8-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Austin Holloway, cutting the Indians' lead to 24-14.

Sims' pair of catches totaled 40 yards.

The touchdown grab was Sims' first of his career.

"It was my first touchdown pass," Sims said. "It felt amazing."

Sims said that working with the varsity team has taught him a lot in his first high school season.

"It's been an honor," Sims said. "It made me feel really good knowing that the coaches thought I was good enough to contribute at this level.

"I've learned that I still have to get stronger and faster, but I'll be able to do that if I just listen to my coaches and teammates," he said.

The Eagles will travel to Monroe Area this week in their final game of the regular season.

"We still want to get a win and play our hardest," Sims said. "We're still going to give it our best."

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
