Eastside Athlete of the Week: Hardge

For his efforts on the gridiron last week, Eastside Eagles defensive back Jamal Hardge has been named Eastside Athlete of the Week.

With the Eagles leading by just a point, Hardge ran back an 81-yard kickoff return to push Eastside's lead to 14-6.

The Eagles' senior took a leadership role with the program last season, and his play on the field has only made him a field general this season.

"That's my favorite part about playing," Hardge said. "Being a leader. Last season, someone needed to step up and I did. I think it's only helped me this season. I like being one of the guys that gets the team prepared to play each week."

Along with his dynamic special teams play, the defensive back has registered a team-high 65 tackles this season.

"He's been our leader since halfway through last season," Eastside coach Rick Hurst said. "There's no doubt about it. His work eithic is amazing and he provides us a spark each time he's on the field."

Hardge and Eastside return to action this Friday on the road at Walnut Grove for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
