Newton County football saw a solid 2016 season from its three Georgia High School Association schools, and we commemorate that by giving you The Covington News 2016 All-County Football team.

The selection of the team happened by way of both our personal observation of football athletes and coaches nominations. We tried to take into account not just stats and measurable, but the overall impact certain players had on the field with their respective teams – some of that impact showed up in intangible ways that aren’t always easily defined by numbers alone.

In all, the Eastside Eagles led the way with 12 athletes named to our all-county squad (not including the honorable mention list). Newton County was next with eight and Alcovy with six.

This season, we also added Coach of the Year, Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year designations. Here's the full 2016 All-County football roster:
