A strong drive and an accurate putt can do more than improve your golf score when the B.C. Crowell Scholarship Fund Golf Tournament tees off.

The annual tournament gets underway Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. at The Oaks Golf Course, and there are more ways to help this local cause.

Sponsorships for the event are available to businesses or individuals for $100 to place a sign on a green at The Oaks Golf Course during the tournament.

Another tax-deductible way to contribute is through a two-man team sponsorship of $150. For both a team and hole sponsorship, the fee is $150 .

The sponsorships go to fund two scholarships of $1,000 each, awarded to a student annually from Alcovy, Eastside and/or Newton High schools.

The Scholarship Fund is guided by a local board and administered by The Community Foundation.

Door prizes and goody bags are also given out at the scramble-formatted tournament.
