Basketball showcase set

Newton County and Rockdale County's best on the basketball court will have a chance to showcase their skills this week, as the two counties host the Newton/Rockdale County Senior All-Star Basketball night.

The celebration of the two counties' basketball tradition will begin at begin at 5 p.m. on March 20 with a 3-point shooting competition. The event will also feature a slam dunk contest before the Newton County and Rockdale County all-star teams square off.

This is a really fun event to participate in and an honor to coach," Newton coach Rick Rasmussen said. "The coaches earn the right to coach the teams by winning their respective county championships by virtue of overall record vs the other two county schools and head-to-head records."

The girls all-star game will begin at 6 p.m. while the boys games to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Newton's Tiffani Johnson and Salem's Rochone Dilligard will coach their respective counties in the girls contest, while Rasmussen and Heritage's Vernon Denmark coach the boys.
