Tigers take first at Bonnie Maddox

The Alcovy Tigers boys' track and field team took home first place honors Saturday at the 2014 Bonnie Maddox Invitational Relay, breezing through the boys’ field with 140 total points.

The Tigers edged second-place finisher Walnut Grove by 19 points, while nearly doubling Monr Comprehensive High School’s third place total of 89 points.

The Lady Tigers track and field team finished just inside of the top-5 at the event, besting Walnut Grove by 2.5 points to finish fourth overall.

Boys lead

The Alcovy boys’ team finished with six first place finishers at the event, while placing in the top-3 of 12 different events.

The Tigers made the most impact in the relay events, placing in the top-3 in the 4x100 meter, 4x200m, 4x400m, 800m sprint medley and distance medley.

Alcovy’s Jordan Heron, Roman Mack, Natorie Philbert and Andy Dorvil placed first overall in the 4x400m event, finishing in a time of 3:37.65.

Harold Monte, Emmanuel Surry, Jeremy Branch and Dorvil helped the Tigers sweep the long distance relays, finishing first in a time of 9:11.98 in the 4x200 meter relay.

Omari Bethal, Tyj Johnson, Javonte’ Lanier and Monte earned Alcovy’s third top finish on the track in the distance medley, finishing the event in a time of 12:58.66.

In the 4x200m event, Kentavious Nelson, Jaylin Penny, Toyous Jefferson and Emmanuel Gbe ran the Tigers to a second place finish, posting a time of 1:34.13.

The Tigers’ 4x100m relay team (Jared Farley, Penny, Philbert and Mack) and the 800m sprint medley team (Demario Loyal, Christen Bell, Farley and Heron) finished third in each of their events in times of 44.76 and 1:44.56, respectively.

In other track events, Mack placed third in the 100m dash (11.51), while Monte finished third in the 1600m run (4:59.71).

In the field, the Tigers captured three to finishes, placing first in the high jump, pole vault and triple jump.

Philbert led the Tigers with a 5-foot, 6-inch leap in the high jump, while Lanier placed first as the pole vault’s lone competitor with a just of 7-feet.

James Bell rounded out Alcovy’s top field competitors with a jump of 40-feet, 5-inches in the triple jump.

Josh Smith earned a second place finish in the discus (122-feet, 4-inches) and Nelson earned the triple jump’s second place spot with a leap of 37-feet, 9-inches.

Taj Nelson rounded out the Tigers’ field representatives with a third place finish in the long jump (18-feet).

Lady Tigers take fourth

The Lady Tigers secured just one first place finish at the Bonnie Maddox Invitational Relay, but it was enough to help them secure a top-5 finish.

The Alcovy girls’ 800m sprint medley team of Glennett Hodge, Taylor Anderson, Quentasia Perry and Brianna Archer finished first overall, posting a time of 1:58.62.

Joining their teammates on the podium in the track events, Lauren Hill, Naja Parks, Hodge and Anderson finished third in the 4x200m relay (1:54.70) and Morgan Frank, Miyana Goodson, Dee Angli Surry and Kai Patterson finished third in the distance medley (16:57.32).

Perry also placed second in the 100m dash in a time of 12.89.

In the field, the Lady Tigers captured a trio of second place finishes, the first coming from Perry in the triple jump (31-feet, 3.5-inches).

Ariel McLean rounded out Alcovy field performers with a pair of second place postings in the shot put (31-feet, 5-inches) and the discus (80-feet, 2-inches),
