The Alcovy Tigers clinched a spot in the second round of the Georgia High School Association Softball Class AAAAAA state playoffs Thursday afternoon with a 3-0 shutout victory over North Cobb.
The Tigers split their tournament opening double header with the Warriors, but held North Cobb off the scoreboard in the series' deciding third game.
Both teams were held off the scoreboard until the fifth inning when the Tigers' Holly Murphy drove a pair of base runners in to give Alcovy a 2-0 lead.
Murphy's 2-RBI double gave the Tigers' a 2-0 advantage before Alcovy tacked on a run in the sixth inning on a Chelsie Nolley sacrifice fly.
Alcovy catcher Morgan Beshears also had a hit in the win.
Alcovy sophomore Kayla Johnson earned her second win of the series, striking out eight batters in the win.
With the series' victory, the Tigers advance to the second round of the tournament beginning on Oct. 23.
Alcovy will take on Newnan for the teams' first meeting this season.
Newnan, the No. 2 seed from Region 3, defeated Colquitt County in three games 9-1, 3-4 and 1-0.
Game times this Wednesday are set for 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
