With region play under way, three teams currently hold the top spot in Region 2-AAAAAA.
Alcovy, Rockdale and Lovejoy currently hold a 1-0 record in league play, while also sporting 4-1 overall records.
The Tigers stand atop the region after defeating Luella 34-31 last Friday. The Lions scored 14 points in the fourth quarter against Alcovy last week. The the Tigers held on for the road win to claim Newton County's best record.
In Rockdale County, the Bulldogs also currently hold a 4-1 record, clinching their fourth win of the season last week against Morrow. The Bulldogs defeated the Mustangs 30-6 on the road, but will face fellow league member Lovejoy tonight at home.
Lovejoy travels to Reid Stadium tonight also holding a 4-1 record with a perfect mark in region play.
The Wildcats have wins over Alpharetta, East Cowetta and Druid Hills in their past three games, dropping their lone decision to Colquitt County 17-13 during the first week of September. The match-up with Rockdale went to the Wildcats in a 41-0 blowout a season ago.
In the lower half of the region, three teams sit with sub-.500 records.
Druid Hills sits in the middle of the pack with a 2-2 overall record, but dropped its first league game of the year last week to Lovejoy. The Wildcats shut out Druid Hills 59-0 a week ago, giving the Red Devils their worst loss since 2003.
The Red Devils have a chance this week to rebound against Luella. The Lions are 2-3 overall, picking up wins over Dutchtown and Henry County before falling to Alcovy a week ago.
Luella is averaging over 27 points in their two wins, but have scored just 33 combined points in their three losses.
Newton and Morrow close out the region standings. Newton takes on Alcovy tonight in its
first region game of the season.
