COVINGTON, Ga. — Only two remain.
Alcovy and Eastside football teams are the last teams standing in the area in the Georgia High School Association state playoffs.
Even so, each team is in two very different situations.
Alcovy Tigers
Coming off a first round bye, the Tigers (5-4) will host the Carrollton Trojans (10-1) at Sharp Stadium on Friday, Nov. 19. Kickoff
will be at 7:30 p.m.
This will be the first time in program history that Alcovy has made it past the first round of the state playoffs. It is also only the sixth playoff game that the Tigers have ever played in.
So, this will be unfamiliar territory for the Tigers.
Adding to the unfamiliarity is their opponent.
Alcovy and Carrollton have never faced each other in their school histories.
Eastside Eagles
The Eagles defeated New Manchester last week in the first round 41-35 on the road. Friday’s matchup was much closer than when the two teams met in the second round of the 2020 state playoffs and Eastside won 37-7.
Now, the Eagles will meet up with another familiar team — a team that eliminated them from the playoffs in the quarterfinals just one year ago.
Jones County defeated Eastside 28-7 in Gray. It was the first time the two teams had met.
Gray will be site of Friday’s matchup, too. The Eagles (8-3) will travel to Jones County (9-2) on Friday, Nov. 19, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
