The Alcovy Tigers and Heritage Patriots squared off in a heated pitchers' duel Wednesday night, but in the end, it was the Patriots that came away with a 6-0 win at home.

The match-up felt like a regional championship final in both programs' final regular season home contest of the year.

Heritage's Kierra Camp didn't allow a baserunner for five innings, while Alcovy's Kayla Johnson struck out nine batters in five innings of work.

Johnson left the game in the sixth inning due to illness and the Patriots capitalized on the Tigers' pitching change, breaking open a scoreless game in the bottom half of the frame to clinch the win.

"Kayla got nauseous and had to leave the game, but we played pretty well overall tonight," Alcovy coach Russell Brock said. "We put the ball in play, but the hits weren't falling for us tonight and some of theirs did. It was a great tune-up for us before the start of the region tournament."

After the Tigers' pitching change in the sixth, the Patriots' lineup strung together five hits in the sixth inning.

Heritage's Carri Wilkerson plated the game's first two runs on a 2-RBI single, scoring Diamond Callwood and Ta'lor Bynum.

Wilkerson reached home two batters later after Addy Allegretti knocked in the Patriots' center fielder and Taylor Moser with a double to center field, extending the Patriots lead to 4-0.

Kamryn Toney pushed Heritage's lead to 5-0, scoring Allegretti with a RBI-single and Morgan Whitten plated the Patriots' final run of the game with a sacrifice but, scoring Toney for the 6-0 final.

Camp finished the game allowing just one hit, which came in the sixth inning off a Jordan White bunt over Toney's head at third base.

The senior struck out nine batters in the shutout.

Allegretti led the Patriots at the dish with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBIs.

"They are going to be a quality playoff opponent," Heritage coach Jason McBay said. "I can see Alcovy being in Columbus. They have the pitching, defense and lineup to make it down there. That's what we're going to see (from here on out). We were fortunate to hit when we needed to in the sixth."

Johnson finished the game with just three hits allowed in five scoreless innings. White allowed six runs in the sixth inning on five hits while striking out one batter.

Alcovy returns to action next week for the start of the region tournament, while the Patriots play Monday night in the semifinals of their region tournament.

The Tigers will face Rockdale in the opening round of the tournament Oct. 8.
