The last time the Lady Rams and the Lady Tigers played, Newton won on a putback buzzer beater from Alexcia Chatman at home. This time Alcovy’s girls didn’t let the game come down to one final shot as they used the second half to run off to a 60-51 victory over Newton, giving Newton its first region loss of the season.
The Lady Tigers moved to 8-10 (4-2 Region 2-AAAAAA) on the season and are still in play to get the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the region.
Alcovy star, Tierra Hodges finished with 26 points on the night and Aleziah Wilson added 10 points. Chatman led Newton in scoring with 17 points and Kayana Henderson was second with 12 points.
The boys
Newton ran roughshod over Alcovy, winning 74-29. The Rams are now 16-3 (3-3 Region 2-AAAAAA) and tied for third in the region while Alcovy remains winless.
Darvin Jones put up 18 points and Antonio Smith added 15. Rosse scored 15 points for Alcovy.
