The Alcovy Tigers dropped their third straight contest Saturday, losing 37-6 to Lakeside-Evans in a penalty-filled Region 3-AAAAAA battle at Homer Sharp Stadium.

Lakeside wasted no time jumping on the Tigers, as the Panthers’ Drew Shed started the scoring with a touchdown and Brendan Gribek making a field goal to create a 10-0 lead, early in the first quarter.

Afterward, it looked as if Alcovy would respond when Koby Perry returned the subsequent kickoff about 55 yards, but he fumbled, giving Lakeside the opportunity to stretch the lead to 13-0 after another field goal toward the end of the first quarter.

After a third Lakeside field goal, Alcovy finally got on the scoreboard with an Austin Davey touchdown run. A missed two-point conversion try kept the score at 16-6 in favor of Lakeside at halftime.

The game was a stalemate in the third quarter, as both teams got sloppy with holding penalties, and neither team could find the endzone. That changed in the fourth quarter when Lakeside’s Savon Stokes scored a touchdown and Tony Jenkins stepped in front of an Alcovy pass and returned it for a pick-six to cap off the game’s scoring.

With the loss, Alcovy dropped to 4-4 overall and 0-3 in Region 3-AAAAAA with a bye week this Friday. The Tigers return to the field Oct. 28 at Heritage and then a home game Nov. 4 with Greenbrier. Lakeside improved to 2-5 overall and 2-0 in region play.
