Alcovy girls, Eastside boys headed to state playoffs

Two local soccer squads will continue their seasons in the State Playoffs beginning this week.

The Alcovy girls’ soccer team qualified for their fourth-straight state playoff appearance in Coach Chris Ubriaco's first year at the helm. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season at 11-3-1 overall and 8-2 in Region 2-AAAAAA, earning the No. 2 seed. They will host the No. 3 seed from 3-AAAAAA, the Campbell Lady Spartans (11-4, 6-1 3-AAAAAA) Wednesday.

On the boys’ side, the Eastside Eagles, under Coach Champ Young, have qualified for the second-straight year. The Eagles finished 9-9 overall and 7-4 in Region 4-AAAA to earn the No. 4 seed. They will travel to Cairo Tuesday to take on the No. 9 ranked Syrupmakers (14-4, 10-0 1-AAAA), the No. 1 seed from 1-AAAA.
