After playing its first nine games without a loss, Alcovy fell for the second time in three contests Tuesday, losing 6-1 to Ola on Tuesday.

The Tigers (9-1-2) escaped the rain in McDonough, but couldn't escape solid pitching, good defense and costly mistakes.

Alcovy allowed two unearned runs with freshman Kalia Johnson on the mound.

In the first inning, Johnson hit a batter, the Tigers committed an error and the Mustangs (5-2-1) connected on a big hit for a 4-1 lead.

Alcovy got on the board first as Lakeiyah Sorrells got on base, moved over on a bunt and was driven home.

The Tigers finished with seven hits, but could only manage the one run.

"We didn't get the big hit today," Alcovy coach Monica Marks said. "We had a couple of innings when we had runners on first, second and third base but we didn't have the clutch hit today.
"We hit it right at them a couple of times on the nose."

Chelsea Murphy had two hits and drove in Sorrels, who also had a hit along with Kalia Johnson.

Alcovy will look to recover from its loss as it hosts Eastside today at 5:55 p.m.

"I think the girls will be pumped up tomorrow," Marks said. "We then have Jones County, so that's kind of a rivalry too, so I think we'll bounce back."

Following Jones County on Thursday, Salem Tuesday and Monticello on Sept. 5, Alcovy will open the Region 2-AAAAAA season at Rockdale.
