ACWORTH, Ga. — Track season started with a bang for a handful of area track athletes this past weekend, as Alcovy and Eastside opened the track and field season at the Allatoona All Comers meet at Allatoona High.

For Newton County athletes, the meet was highlighted by the performance of Alcovy’s girls 4x100 meter relay. The Tigers’ team of Katherine Hopson, Destiny Rhodes, Sanaya Scott and Kiara Lipsey finished on top with a time of 50.54 seconds, edging out McEachern by less than a second.

The Lady Tigers placed second in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 12:03.07, finishing a little more than half a minute behind Allatoona.
