It was a rivalry game for the ages Dec. 16, as the Salem girls varsity basketall team handled Heritage 112-30 at home.
In the process of the blowout victory, Salem junior Ayanna Mitchell broke the Lady Seminoles' record for points scored in a single game, finishing the contest with 46 points on 18-of-25 shooting from the floor.
Mitchell finished the lopsided game with a triple-double, grabbing 16 rebounds and 12 steals in the region win.
Mitchell also managed to dish out three assists and block two shots as the Lady Seminoles marched on to their eighth victory.
"Ayanna is a special player," Salem coach Rochone Dilligard said. "She does a lot of different things that create easy scoring opportunities. She was able to do that tonight. She creates a lot of opportunities for herself on defense and she was able to convert those tonight."
Mitchell's point total bested that of Courtney Hunt, who set the school record at 41 points in 2008 against Cedar Shoals.
