Point University coach Randy Douglas didn't have many opportunities to see Erin Elmore play due to her injuries, but that didn't matter.
Tuesday, Elmore signed a letter of intent to play soccer at Point starting next year at Young Americans Christian School.
The YACS midfielder is in her final season with the Eagles, one in which she is fully healthy after recovering from a torn ACL. Elmore suffered a knee injury toward the end of the 2012 regular season with a partial tear in her ACL.
She continued to play the game she enjoyed under instructions from her doctor that she'd have to wear a brace and play through pain. She played through the pain and helped lead her team to the state playoffs.
However, that's where she took the partial tear and had a full tear.
While recovering, Elmore kept in physical shape waiting to be cleared for soccer duties. Young said as soon as she was cleared, she picked up where she left off.
"As soon as she was released to be able to come back onto the field this year, she did," Young said. "She is a much better player today."
Through her time injured, Elmore remained in contact with Point's coach Randy Douglas, who although he hadn't yet seen her play, was still eager to bring her onto his team.
When he finally did see her play, Douglas didn't need much to convince him she would be a good fit.
"There was no doubt in my mind after seeing her play for a minute and half, she had the knowledge and the vision of a good soccer player," Douglas said. "Everything her club coaches told me was proven true."
Tuesday, Elmore's dream came true as she signed with a collegiate team - something she has wanted to do since she was 12.
"This was a huge opportunity for her to sign somewhere," Young said. "I've had the opportunity to see her grow into a fine young lady and a fine young soccer player."
