Mr. Winford E. Trainer, age 86 of Conyers, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.D. and Leola Trainer; sister, Lois Trainer Hays; brothers, David and J.H. "Jake" Trainer. Mr. Trainer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo L. Trainer; sons and daughters-in-law, Alan and Andrea Trainer, their children, Thomas and Ann of LaGrange, GA; Robert and Karen Trainer, their children, Amanda and Evan of Oxford, GA; sister, Mary Aycock of Marietta, GA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Winford was born August 23, 1924 in Porterdale, GA. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army 838th Ordnance Depot. He was a member and former president of the Maxwell Class of Conyers First United Methodist Church. In the early 50's he began a career with USF&G Insurance Company in the Atlanta branch, rising to the position of Superintendent of Accounting. In 1974, he started his own business, Metro Marking & Sealing, which he continued to work at until he retired at the age of 80 and turned the business over to his son. He dedicated himself to the City of Conyers serving as a member of the city council for 20 years as well as a Volunteer Fireman. He was employed with the Rockdale County Board of Education as a school bus driver. Later, as head of the maintenance department of Heritage High School, he was very instrumental in the opening of this school in 1976. He enjoyed getting up early each day and meeting many friends for breakfast (and a lot of laughs) at Mamie's Kitchen in Conyers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Scot Ward's Green Meadow Chapel with Rev. Dan Brokaw and Rev. David Collins officiating; interment will follow at East View Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
