Welcome To Your Weekend: Music To Make You Move!

Whether it’s a catchy radio anthem or a timeless symphony, music has the power to capture our senses and hold them captive. Live performances can create a series of moments that serve as a haven from the outside world and grant us a rare opportunity to achieve simultaneous relaxation and entertainment for however brief a time. Find a style that resonates with you and grab your tickets, lawn chair, dancing shoes, etc. for a night of pure musical bliss.

You can spend an evening listening to the vocal stylings of young local talent with your choice of two musical theatre camp final performances.  Rockdale County High School’s Summer Theatre Camp and the Conyers-Rockdale Council for the Arts’ Musical Drama Camp both wrap up this Friday, July 18th at 7:00p.m. Grab a seat and enjoy Rockdale county youth bringing Broadway favorites to the stage in either of these two spirited talent showcases.

Perhaps your musical fancy can only be tickled by something slightly more alternative than Broadway’s best. Indulge your need for folk-rock perfection and check out the Indigo Girls show. Revel in the simple melodies, the mixture of rich voices, and the thoughtful lyrics of the Indigo Girls while taking in the picturesque setting provided by the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. The bright, pleasant outdoor backdrop adds to the honest, natural Indigo Girls vibe and helps you release your worries to the wind and embrace quiet reflection.

Load up the car with drinks and lawn chairs and take the whole family out for an evening of music at the Duluth Town Green Amphitheater. The Bicho Brothers bring their unique blend of soul and Latin percussion as they cover your favorite hits from the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Santana, and more. Drink in the cool summer night with a fresh take on classic hits. These seasoned musicians appeal to classic rock tastes, but they aren’t afraid to throw in new and interesting musical combinations. Bring a blanket and a few dollars and some extra cash for on-site food and drink vendors.

Maybe a rhythmic toe-tapping, can’t-help-but-clap-your-hands-to-that-beat style suits you. It sounds like you should head out to get your groove on with a DJ. Dance your cares away while an experienced DJ mixes and matches a playlist guaranteed to make you move. The Whistle Post and Marshall Sports Bar and Grill both boast weekly Saturday night DJ’s for your listening and dancing pleasure.

A wide variety of music options ensures that everyone finds an artist that they can connect with. Bonus: A live performance also connects people with similar tastes to each other and establishes a sense of community that can add an extra layer of ambiance to the whole evening. So give your iPod the night off and get the full experience of a live performance.
