Welcome To Your Weekend

Today I noticed my daughter reading one of Charles Schultz’ Peanuts stories. You remember Peanuts right? Charlie Brown ran to kick the football, only to have Lucy jerk it out from under him. Snoopy, the World War I Flying Ace, relentlessly pursued the Red Baron. Linus, sweet and wise, couldn’t seem to let go of his blue blanket. Schroeder wowed us with his Mozart-like talent on his kiddie piano. And Sally, full of love and a bit naive, followed Linus into the Pumpkin Patch for yet another disappointment. We all know the characters and the stories so well. They are a huge part of our childhood years and continue to bring joy to the current generation. Charles Schultz was a creative genius. At its peak, his Peanuts comic strip appeared in over 2,600 papers in 75 countries! Partnered with his abundance of natural talent was strict routine and strong work ethic. Each day, he would wake up, eat a jelly donut, sort through his mail then begin to create a concept and draw his comic strip. During the nearly 50 years that he created the Peanuts comic, Charles Schultz took only one 5-week vacation in order to celebrate his 75th birthday! We can’t all be genius cartoonist millionaires or have our face on a bubblegum card, but I know one thing for sure… we need more than one vacation in 75 years! So take this weekend as an opportunity for a mini-getaway and enjoy one of the several spring events taking place in our area. As Mr. Schultz once said, “What's the good of living if you don't try a few things?”

Welcome to the fast lane. For car enthusiasts, the best day of the year has finally arrived. The 2015 Atlanta International Auto Show comes to the Georgia World Congress Center. Dozens of makes and models, driving experiences and a Spider-Man appearance for the kids make this a great weekend family event. If you are looking for something a little mellower, then the fabulous Fox Theatre is your destination for the Atlanta Blues Festival. Enjoy the beautiful outdoors at the Spring Green Festival, supporting Habitat for Humanity. The Gwinnett County Fairgrounds are host to this event including kid activities, a motorcycle show, food and more. If your children are already anxious for the Easter Bunny to arrive, head on over to Covington for one of two Easter Egg Hunts.
