Bike lovers – it’s time to shine up those Harleys. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5290 will be holding it’s first ever "Let’s Roll" Motorcycle Show on Sept. 11, registration from 9 a.m. – 11 p.m. at the Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson, 900 Dogwood Drive.

Categories include best chopper, bobber, antique, dresser, lady’s ride, trike, cruiser, sport, import, rat bike, best in show and people’s choice. Conyers Police Chief Gene Wilson will be on the panel of judges with two others.

In addition to the bike show, there will also be raffles with a limited edition gold-etched 9 mm Beretta gun donated by the Conyers Police Department being raffled off with the drawing on Nov. 11, a 50/50 raffle bake sale by the Ladies’ Auxiliary, voter registration, and fundraising for Operation Paperback.

"It seemed like a fun way to reach some new members we haven’t reached," said organizer Gretchen Blade.

Post commander Chuck Koons added, "A lot of (veterans) don’t realize there’s so much red tape and bureaucracy the VFW can help them get through. We’re also here to help the widows, widowers and spouse."

"The biggest thing is to be around people who understand what you may have been through," said Koons.

The post is located at 1432 VFW Dr. SW, Conyers. For more information, call (770) 483-7443 or email vfwbikeshow@yahoo.com. - Michelle Kim
