UPDATE (Sept. 18, 11:49 a.m.): The identities of shooter and double homicide victims, the shooter's wife and his son, have been released by the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

The shooter, Robert Davis of 135 Helm Drive, has been charged with two counts of murder. Davis is charged with shooting his wife Bernadene S. Lebert-Davis, 43, and 21-year-old son Robert M. Kelli-Davis.

Investigators are awaiting an autopsy by the GBI.

(Sept. 17, 5:36 p.m.) COVINGTON - Newton County Sheriff's Office deputies are on the scene of a double homicide on the 100 block of Helm Drive, near Almon Road and I-20.

Dispatchers received a call around 4:22 p.m.

"The subject called 911 and said he shot two of his relatives," said NCSO spokesperson Deputy Felicia Jefferson.

NCSO patrol units responded and came to the residence. "He came out of the residence and was taken into custody without incident," said Jefferson. The two victims were found inside deceased.

The victims are an adult female and an adult male. The names of the victims are not being released pending family notification.

There are no additional suspects being sought. "This is an ongoing investigation by the NCSO," said Jefferson.
