UPDATE: A Gwinnett County man who reportedly shot himself Thursday morning after fleeing law enforcement had 50 pounds of marijuana and cash in his car, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
Noel Heard, 42, of Gwinnett County, was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday at Rockdale Medical after his car crashed on Farmer Road.
According to a short statement released by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was serving a search warrant at a business on General Arts Road when he noticed a suspicious car in the area. When the deputy turned around to observe it, the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, took off and eventually overturned on Farmer Road near Rockbridge Road.
"The deputy came around the bend in time to see the driver crawl out of the vehicle and run behind a house. The deputy heard a shot and discovered the suspect on the ground," wrote RCSO spokesperson Lt. Myra Pearrell.
"GBI agents recovered approximately 50 pounds of marijuana from Heard`s vehicle and $8,000 in cash. A 40 Caliber Glock pistol, which had been fired once, was found beside Heard`s body along with one spent shell casing," wrote GBI spokesperson John Bankhead.
