Rockdale County residents are invited to join a "Wireside Chat" by phone on June 7 to ask County Commission Chair Richard Oden and Conyers Mayor Randy Mills about the upcoming regional transportation sales tax referendum, also called the TSPLOST, on the ballot July 31.
Inspired by President Roosevelt’s “Fireside Chat” during World War II in which he detailed the progress of the war while citizens followed along at home using a world map, the modern-day “Wireside Chats” will connect local elected officials with residents of the region. During these telephone chats, which will take place between June 4 -7 and June 13-14, residents can ask questions about the projects on the list and follow along using a regional map.
Oden and Mills will field calls on June 7 at 7:30 p.m.
“Mayor Mills and I look forward to speaking with potentially thousands of our friends and neighbors about the referendum,” said Oden. “Our goal is to inform Rockdale County residents about the projects that will impact them most.”
Residents are asked to register in advance to receive materials they can refer to during the call. The call will last about an hour. All questions will be answered, either live or as a follow-up e-mail or phone call.
Residents are invited to register for as many of the chats as they like. There will be 12 chats in the region, two per evening for six nights, with the first at 6:15 p.m. and the second at 7:30 p.m. To do so, visit www.wiresidechats.com, or call 404-463-3227. These evening phone conversations are organized by jurisdiction and are free of charge.
