American Legion Post 77 paid tribute to local Tuskegee Airman Val R. Archer on May 18, Armed Forces Day.

The featured speaker was Shan Cooper Vice President and General Manager for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics — Marietta. Attorney Otis Weldon, Rockdale Sheriff’s Office Deputy Peter Elizabeth Wolfe, and Post 77 Commander Zeste Debro also spoke, with Clerk of Courts Ruth Wilson as emcee and performances by AMAYZ.

“I accept this with great humility... on behalf of everyone who was a Tuskegee Airman.. and everyone who was in uniform and those who supported us,” said Archer. “My heart is full.” 

The American Legion Post 77 also named Rockdale County Sheriff's Office Deputy Shasta Duren as Post 77’s law enforcement officer of the year.
