Town hall on sign regulations to be held

IN BRIEF: The Board of Commissioners decided to defer their first vote on revisions to the sign regulations for businesses until after a town hall meeting could be scheduled.

Commissioner Oz Nesbitt said, "This issue of the signs has been an issue for quite some time. We've recieved several emails, phone calls from local merchants in reference to signs and the sign ordinance.

Commissioner JaNice Van Ness asked to go ahead and hold the first of the two votes required on an ordinance change and to schedule the town hall before the second vote. She said, "I did not find anything that I thought would be a negative. It was more of my interest in getting feedback so we wouldn't have to change it again."

Nesbitt replied, "I think you did an excellent job in convincing me to yield and wait to hear from the public on this. Because we've put it out to the public that there is going to be a town hall meeting, I think it would be in our best interest to wait and hear from the public and give them an opportunity to express their concerns."

The board unanimously decided to defer the first of two votes on the regulation amendments until after the town hall could be scheduled sometime in the next week.

No date was announced as of Thursday.
