Dear Editor: The Nov. 18 Town Hall community meeting was an amazing accomplishment, especially considering that it was created within 72 hours by three determined moms. Each committed to creating an arena of energy that promotes cohesive citizen communications on behalf of all residing in Rockdale County. They assembled a political platform of unprecedented breadth, width and depth, the creation of which has been approximated before but never attained.
While the impetus grew from "We know the problem. We need solutions," the response generally generated repeated proposed band aids - existing platforms of self serving actions of special interest solutions. The essence of comments was expressed by concerned individuals that filled all seats of the auditorium's main floor - a full house.
Without reservations, every comment proposed during the meeting held merit. Every comment was a paraphrase confirmation of the problem and/or potential solutions. Nearly every comment left a smoking mirror of a "yes, but." Ultimately, a confirmation was acclaimed describing the lack of equitable enforced existing law remains as the preverbal elephant in the room and Missing Voters (MIA's) as maintenance staff.
Continuing in that vein, the following is FYI and action that you deem appropriate. Share as an imperative platform and foundation steps to solutions being sought:
1) Verify, refine and equitable enforce all existing rules of law.
2) Establish quarterly Community Retreats. Constitute with fixed Titles of Elected Officials (Constitutional Officers, Judicial Officers of all Courts, Chair and Superintendent of the Rockdale County School System). Electronically record all proceedings and portray via CH 23 as Government Access programming.
3) Define a strict application process that all individuals seeking Election or Re-Election to a Public Office must file as a Public Record. The concerted effort of each Political Party should be pursued in creating the application for file as a "Public Record" and qualifying documentation.
