Conyers Post 77, which won the 2009 Georgia American Legion title, has moved onto bigger things.

Coach Eddie Bagwell’s bunch left Wednesday for the Southeast Regional Legion Championship Tournament in Sumter, S.C. Here’s a look at how Conyers has fared against some of the best teams from the U.S. and beyond so far.

ROUND 1

Conyers defeated the South Carolina Legion champs, Chapin Post 193, 3-0 on Thursday night in the opening games for both squads. Cameron Gibson, Travis Tartleton and Brandon Crumbley each had an RBI apiece in the win.

ROUND 2

In their second game, Conyers knocked off the Legion champs from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, 2-0 last night. Gibson knocked in both runs, and has three RBI in two tournament games.

NEXT UP

The Conyers crew can book a trip to the finals with a win in their 7 p.m. game tonight.

BAZZANI’S BEST

Heritage standout and Eastern Kentucky signee Anthony Bazzani threw a complete-game, eight strikeout gem in the opener to advance Conyers. That performance gave Bazzani 19 Ks in his last 17 innings-pitched, dating back to his state tourney start.

DOWN WITH DIAZ

Kelvan Diaz, another Heritage pitcher, threw a complete-game shutout in the second contest. Diaz has allowed just one run in his last 16 IP, going back to his outing in the state semis.
