A recent undercover sting in Conyers found 93 percent of businesses tested to see if they would sell alcohol to minors passed the test - the highest rate of compliance over the last year. Only three failed out of the 42 businesses checked.

The Conyers Police Department's Marshal Unit, along with agents from the Georgia Department of Revenue, conducted an underage alcohol operation on Friday, March 13. Forty-two businesses within the City of Conyers were visited and underage teens working with Conyers Police attempted to purchase alcoholic beverages. Of the restaurants, bars, convenience stores, and package stores visited, three of those businesses sold to the minors and were cited:

1. Citgo - 1553 Klondike Road
2. Six Ways to Sunday - 1815 Highway 138, Suite 500
3. Cozumel - 425 Sigman Road, Suite 116

Cozumel was additionally cited for serving alcohol without a server permit which is required for all restaurant servers within the City of Conyers.

"We are extremely pleased with our local businesses. 93 percent is the best compliance rate we have seen performing these checks," said Chief of Police Gene Wilson. "We attribute this accomplishment to our Responsible Alcohol Sales & Service (RASS) class requirement for all of those who serve alcohol in the city. Not only do we continue to educate our businesses on state laws and local ordinances, we can prove the vast majority are abiding by them."

Previous operations had pass rates of: January 2013 (76%), November 2013 (89%), August 2014 (81%)
