Thieves strike center for developmentally disabled

The Rockdale Cares "Our Place" campus, a center for training and educating the developmentally disabled, was struck by thieves this past weekend who made off with four air conditioning units.
Executive Director Barbara Kilpatrick arrived on Monday, May 17, to discover that four large outdoor AC units had been cut from their wiring and lifted and taken from their concrete pads sometime over the weekend. Our Place is open Monday through Friday.
Clients were taken out on field trips until replacement units could be found.
The cost of the four units is estimated between $8,000 to $10,000.
"It's very disheartening, especially with the population that we serve and the needs they have," said Kilpatrick. "If I could get my hands on whoever did this."
This is the second time in four months that Rockdale Cares has been robbed. Haven House, a respite home for the developmentally disabled that Rockdale Cares operates in the Light House Village off of Sigman Road, was broken into and robbed in February.
