The PTA held a Principal Coffee and Chat Nov. 1. A group of parents talked candidly about their perception of Conyers Middle School, what works and what  doesn’t, and how positively CMS has turned around in the past two years. The next Principal Roundtable is Jan.16, 6:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.

The winners of CMS’s PTA Reflections Contest were recognized in an awards ceremony Nov. 5 (see left).

Mr. Jason Cowles and Ms. Kisha Barnes, CMS teachers who are also military veterans, were recognized during the Nov. 12  CMS Pep Rally, where the PTA presented them with restaurant gift cards to thank them for their service in the armed forces. CMS Teacher of the Year Nicka Grimes was given a cake, banner, bouquet and restaurant gift card in appreciation.

The PTA’s Dairy Queen Spirit Night was held Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Conyers DQ with an exciting banana split eating contest between teachers Jennifer Toney, Kisha Barnes and Jennifer Jones. Ms. Jones won the contest, winning a Dilly Bar Party from Dairy Queen for the entire eighth grade.

We want to congratulate the eight CMS students invited to participate in the University of Georgia Middle School Festival, Dec.12–14. This honor is bestowed upon the most talented students throughout Georgia and neighboring states. Students will audition for chair placement in the festival and will take part in a large performing ensemble, master classes with the UGA professors, as well as attend concerts by several phenomenal middle school bands and the UGA Wind Symphony. Congratulations to Band Director Mr. Joseph Hasty, and to his students.

We are starting a toner cartridge recycling program at CMS and encourage everyone to please bring in all of your old toner and ink cartridges and drop them off in the recycling box located directly inside the main doors of the school, next to the PTA bulletin board.

There are also PTA membership forms located on the bulletin board.  Pick one up, fill it out and drop it off in the Parent Center or Front Desk along with your $5 payment.  What’s stopping you from joining this active PTA, this year?
