Suspect sought in Thanksgiving Day shooting

Police are on the hunt for an Atlanta man who shot a Conyers man in an attempted robbery on Thanksgiving Day off Iris Drive.

Marcus Mandela Campbell, 19, of Atlanta is facing a warrant for aggravated assault, among other charges.

Campbell reportedly met with two black males in their early 20s at the entrance of the Meadows Crossing Apartments off Iris Drive on Thanksgiving morning, around 11:30 a.m., according to Conyers Police Lt. Jack Dunn. Neither Campbell nor the victims, who knew each other as aquaintences, lived at the apartments and were meeting there, said Dunn.

Campbell then got into the back seat of a Dodge Charger belonging to one of the males.

"At some point in their conversation, it turned into a robbery," said Dunn.

Campbell then allegedly shot one of the males several times, strking him in the chin and other places in the body.

The suspect then fled the area in a dark colored four-door sedan.

The victim as well as other nearby residents called 911. The victim, who was able to talk, was flown to an Atlanta hospital and is currently in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

A handgun was recovered on the scene.

Campbell is described as about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, about 130 pounds, with multiple tattoos on his forearms, hands, and knuckles.
