A Covington man spent the first night of the new year in jail after allegedly causing an accident in a stolen vehicle while in possession of a large quantity of drugs and a stolen gun.

Cedrick Deon Williams, 23, was arrested around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 following an accident at the intersection of Salem Road and Fairview Road.

According to the Conyers police report, Williams was driving a stolen Nissan Sentra when he rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection. According to officers, Williams was acting evasive and suspicious. When searched, Williams was allegedly found to be in possession of a gun, three cell phones, a digital scale, marijuana, suspected cocaine and $178 cash in various denominations. The arrest report stated the High Point Model C9 was reported stolen out of Newton County and was loaded with a round in the chamber.

Williams, who was on probation for a 2008 arrest for drug and narcotics charges, was arrested and charged with following too closely; possession of cocaine; purchase/possession/manufacture/distribution or sale of marijuana; felony theft by receiving stolen property; possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies and receipt; and possession or transfer of a firearm by a convicted felon or felony first offender. He was also charged with reckless conduct because he allegedly tossed the gun away from the scene following the accident to prevent detection.

The female driver of the other vehicle, a Dodge Charger, was transported to Rockdale Medical Center after complaining of neck and back pain but the other two passengers were uninjured, according to the report.

The occupants of the Charger reported seeing a female passenger from the Sentra run into nearby woods following the accident, but officers were not able to locate her. When asked, Williams said he did not know the identity of the female and had just met her at a party.
