A wintery mix of sleet, rain and even some snow flurries can be expected Saturday evening as a winter storm whips into north and central Georgia.

According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service at Peachtree City, periods of light snow or sleet can be expected north of a line from West Point to Macon to Gibson.

Accumulation is expected only in the higher elevation areas, but drivers are warned to proceed with caution.

The outlook for New Year's Eve calls for rain becoming likely across north Georgia during the night.

Temperatures will be cool with readings holding in the mid 40s to mid 50s across much of the region throughout the night.

Anyone planning to be outdoors New Year's Eve should take the extra precaution of bringing an umbrella or rain jacket.
