Snapping Shoals EMC is now accepting applications from sophomores and juniors from the area high schools for an all-expense-paid spot on the 2011 Washington Youth Tour. The weeklong trip offers participants the opportunity to experience and learn about our government and history up-close, all while having fun, making new friends and learning valuable leadership skills. The program is designed to give students an in-depth experience of democracy in action, our nations history and to encourage students to become politically aware citizens. The students who are chosen will become one of three delegates sponsored by Snapping Shoals EMC to join the nearly 100 other students from other EMCs across Georgia. The group will represent Georgia at the Washington Youth Tour to be held June 9-16. The tour begins with the students learning about Georgias 42 EMCs and electric cooperative industry, as well as a private tour of the Little White House in Warm Springs, GA. Once in Washington D.C., the students connect with more than 1,500 other students from around the country. The tour takes the students around to the capitals many sights and historic locations, including meeting Georgias U.S. senators and representatives. In addition to having all expenses paid by Snapping Shoals EMC, each of the three student delegates will receive a $500 scholarship when they begin college. Visit www.ssemc.com to download the application or call 770-385-2888 to have one mailed. The deadline to apply is Feb. 11, 2011.
