Saluting our Veterans

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 2011, Rockdale residents will have a chance to honor all those who have served in the military.

A Veterans Day program was held at the Walk of Heroes memorial at Black Shoals Park on Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. The park is located at 3001 Black Shoals road, off of Ga. Highway 20 in the northern part of Rockdale County. The 900-foot long Walk of Heroes honors veterans who fought in the conflicts of the 20th century and will eventually have educational displays as well.

The American Legion Post 77 will also be hosting a Veterans Day luncheon, with guest speaker attorney and Superior Court Judge candidate Robert Mumford.

Area schools will also be honoring veterans with a parades, visits from veterans, and other events. Barksdale Elementary School will host veterans on Friday morning.
