The Salem girls' basketball team has earned a trip to the Class AAAA playoffs.

The Lady Seminoles defeated Flowery Branch 43-30 on Tuesday, to advance to the Region 8-AAAA semifinals.
Freshman Ayanna Mitchell led the way with 15 points and 14 rebounds to snap Salem's longest losing streak of the season, at two games.

Salem, which was last in the playoffs in 2009-10, was just 5-19 overall and 1-8 in region play a year ago.

Lady Bulldogs fall

Rockdale, which defeated Salem in the final game of the regular season to earn the top seed in the Region 8-AAAA women's tournament, was eliminated in the quarterfinals Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Clarke Central 46-44, and missed out on a second-straight state playoff appearance on Tuesday.

Brianna Lawrence scored 17 points and Kree Clark grabbed 15 boards in the loss.

It was the second time Rockdale faced the Gladiators this season, edging them 61-59 on Dec. 16.
