Salem boys, girls stay unbeaten

The Salem girls basketball team picked up its second win on Monday, beating Lanier High School 55-26 at the Lanier High School Thanksgiving Classic.

The Salem Seminoles played well collectively on defense, holding an opponent to its lowest total of the season.

Ayanna Mitchell led Salem with 14 points, and Shay Tarver added 13. The Salem Seminoles improved to 2-0 on the young season.

In her first two varsity games, Mitchell has 44 points for the young Salem Seminoles.

Salem has also had a successful years on the boys side, improving to 3-0 this week.

The Salem Seminoles defeated Lumpkin County 87-46 on Saturday, before edging Lanier 59-52 on Monday afternoon.

The defending Region 8-AAAA champion Rockdale boys have started the season 2-1, picking up its only loss of the season this week.

The Bulldogs fell to Southwest DeKalb 90-81 on Saturday. Charles Moore led the way with 32 points and four assists. C.J. Wilson added 24 points, four assists and two steals.

The Heritage boys' team also fell to 1-1 after a loss Saturday, 63-47 to Jefferson.
