At 11 days past his due date, Baby Collin Matthew Luti may have known what he was doing because his late arrival made him the first 2014 baby born in Rockdale County.
Breanna Luti of Covington said she thought her new son "just didn't want to come out," but was glad to finally have him here.
"He was supposed to be here on the 20th," Luti said.
Baby Collin was born at 1 a.m. New Year's Day, weighing 8 pounds, 13 ounces and measuring 20 inches long.
Luti and the baby's father, Vince Elder, went in to Rockdale Medical Center's Birth Place around 11:40 a.m. New Year's Eve. Doctors induced her about 3 p.m. and Luti was sure the baby would be born "way sooner," than the next day.
"Especially with him being my fourth baby, I thought he would have been here three weeks ago," Luti said.
But she thought having a New Year's Day birthday would be nice for her new son.
"I think he's pretty lucky because he doesn't have to share his birthday with Christmas presents," Luti said with a laugh. "And I think it's just an awesome way to start the new year."
By about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 1, a quiet Baby Collin was blinking his eyes while waiting to meet his older siblings.
Collin is welcomed by brother David, 4, sister Alexa, 3, and brother Aiden, 2.
