The 2011 season came to an end for the Rockdale Bulldogs Friday night in Mt. Airy as Habersham Central posted a 34-7 win and clinched a spot in the AAAA playoffs.
The fourth-seeded Raiders (6-4) jumped out to a 13-0 lead early in the first half thanks to a pair of miscues by the Bulldogs. Rockdale punter Brent Johnson was tackled by Habersham's Drew Ferguson after a high snap and coughed up the ball deep in Bulldogs' territory.
Habersham's Patrick Burns scored on the next play to make it 6-0.
Rockdale (1-9) drove down the field on their next possession but the scoring opportunity ended when quarterback Zach Powell fumbled at the Habersham 20-yard line. The Raiders drove 80 yards in six plays with Burns scoring on a five-yard run.
Burns scored his third touchdown of the half later in the second quarter, this time on a 17-yard run.
Habersham pushed the lead to 24-0 late in the second quarter as quarterback Kevin Ellison hooked up with Brandt Rinehart on a 24-yard pass play.
Ellison ripped off a 94-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to make it 34-0 and Aalim Dansby got the Bulldogs' lone score of the night, finding the end zone on a 20-yard run with 57 seconds left in the game.
The Bulldogs had 244 yards of offense in the game, led by D.J. Ardister who had 58 yards on nine carries. Powell had 85 yards passing but was sacked twice.
Ellison had 183 or the Raiders' 328 yards and scored a touchdown. Burns finished with 43 yards on 11 carries and scored three times.
Desmond Graham had a game-high 12 tackles for the Bulldogs, while Kiante Allen and Lloyd Holder each had six.
It was the first time Rockdale was held to one win since finishing 1-9 in 2007.
