The Rockdale County courthouse and all non-emergency county offices will also be closed Tuesday, Sept. 22, due to inclement weather and flooding issues within the county. Jury trials will resume Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The Sept. 23 Board of Commissioners meeting has been postponed.

The Atlanta Humane Society has set up a mobile unit at Hightower Trail Elementary School, and the Rockdale County Animal Control Shelter on Rockbridge Road will remain open to accept emergency boardings for evacuees only who cannot take pets with them. Additionally, Animal Control will respond to emergencies and will respond 24/7 to emergencies only.

Also, it is expected that all bridges over the Yellow River within Rockdale County may be closed during the evening or morning hours. Please take precaution when traveling and have an alternate route planned.

Public safety authorities reminded residents in a release not to drive through standing water. "If you can't see the roadway, do not try to drive on/across the area."

It also warned parents and caretakers not to allow children to play in standing water or flooded areas. These areas are dangerous and could lead to serious bodily harm or drownings.
