Elected officials, community leaders and residents turned out to dedicate the J.P. Carr Services Center located at 981 Taylor Street. The site was once a part of the J.P. Carr School, the county's only school for African Americans until 1969. Carr was born in Rockdale County in 1874 and lived here until his death
in 1955.

The J.P. Carr Center is the new home of the health department, veterans services and the department of juvenile justice.
