The first ever Rockdale County Career Fair held Friday, Oct.12 at the Rockdale Career Academy saw more than 650 jobseekers attending the event to meet with 45 employers. Attendees came from all over the county as well as neighboring communities such as Covington, Lithonia, Stockbridge, Monroe, Decatur, and Stone Mountain. Potential employers included national chain stores, government agencies, non-government agencies, colleges and universities, and small businesses. At least a dozen are in the process of seriously considering hires of those they met at the fair.
Throughout the day, workshops also were offered for the jobseekers to learn new information helpful to their job search. One of the most popular sessions offered was the one-on-one resume review where jobseekers were able to meet with career coaches and human resource professionals to receive advice on how to improve their resumes.
There also was a representative from Governor Nathan Deal’s Office of Workforce Development to present information about the governor’s fairly new skills trade initiative, “Go Build Georgia.”
In addition to giveaway bags, there were raffle drawings every hour. The raffle prizes were made possible by Papa’s Country Buffet, Pacho’s Mexican Grill, Conyers Flower Shop, LA Fitness, the National Guard, Zaxby’s restaurant (both Conyers locations), and Jim Fuller’s U.M.A.S. Karate Studios.
