Rockdale is among six counties that have been awarded a grant as part of The Council on Alcohol and Drugs in order to establish regular and successful Responsible Alcohol Sales and Service (RASS) Workshops.

The $99,800 grant was awarded by the Georgia Governor's Office of Highway Safety for the funding period from Oct. 1, 2011 through Sept. 30, 2012.

"This grant will allow for the provision of training, technical assistance and a media campaign to educate county stakeholders and alcohol retailers about the purposes and critical need for RASS Workshops," said Chuck Wade,
President & CEO of The Council on Alcohol and Drugs."

The workshops help alcohol owners and licensees become more knowledgeable in preventing selling and serving alcohol to underage and intoxicated clientele.

The other counties where the grant will go toward workshops are Hall, Fayette, Fulton, Pike and Spalding.

In Rockdale the main agency collaborating with the Council is the Rockdale Coalition for Children and Families.

Other agencies are: Drug Free Coalition of Hall County, Hall County Family Connection Network, Learn to Grow, Inc. in Fulton County, Spalding County Collaborative Authority for Families and Children, Fayette Alliance Coordinating Teamwork, Outreach and Resources (FACTOR), Pike County Community Resource Network, East Point Community Action Team (EPCAT) Fulton County and SMART, Inc. in Fulton County.
