Rockdale students scored slightly below the state average in released the test scores for the American College Test (ACT).
The ACT is a national college admissions exam which measures achievement in English, mathematics, reading and science with an optional writing component.
RCPS had an overall ACT composite score of 19.5, which is one tenth below last year’s score and is just below the overall state score of 20.7 and the national score of 20.9. There were a total of 588 students who took the ACT, which is up from 504 students last year.
“Our results remained fairly steady with a larger number of students taking the test,” said Superintendent Richard Autry. “However, we are still below the state and national average. We must continue to focus on preparing our students by exposure to rigorous coursework, accurate planning for future college and career goals, and test preparation. We have seen tremendous growth in the number of students taking and succeeding in Advanced Placement coursework, using GAcollege411 for student portfolios, and offering free test preparation during the school year, summer break and through Rockdale Virtual Campus.”
RCPS also created academic rigor maps as basic guides for students and parents to choose the best pathway for college and career readiness. Brochures can also be found on the College and Career Readiness page on the district website (www.rockdale.k12.ga.us) under the Student section.
